About the Hall of Halls Rokko
The Hall of Halls is a museum with a collection of antique musical boxes, automatic musical instruments, such as organs and violins, and automata that were made from the late 19th century to the early 20th century.
At the museum, there is a studio where visitors can experience the making of musical boxes. There is also another studio that produces custom made-to-order musical boxes, and a cafe and museum shop which specializes in musical boxes.
What are automatic musical instruments and musical boxes?
Best described by their names; automatic musical instruments are instruments that automatically play music by themselves, without the help of people. Within the grouping of automatic musical instruments, the devices that play music with tuned metal components (such as the devices that produce sound from the metal teeth of a comb) are called musical boxes.
Musical boxes were first created about 200 years ago within the Swiss watch making industry.
